For this month’s Object of the Month display, we asked one of our very own Learning and Engagement Officers, Diana, who chose this image from a Miners Gala Day held at the Betteshanger Welfare Sports Ground in 1954.
“This image reminds me of school sports days. It is a day when parents, carers, siblings and extended family come together to support and cheer some of the youngest members of the family. It is a cherished memory some of us carry with us well into our adult lives.
The expressions on the children’s faces here are sheer joy with a hefty dose of cheekiness. To me it shows that children and their cheekiness never really change and that children will always be children!”
